Setup help

Installing your assistant, one screen at a time.

Windows and your web browser show a few warning screens when you open a new program. That is normal for our setup file. Below is every screen you might see, what it says, and exactly what to click. Find the one on your screen and follow it.

The pictures are simple drawings, not real screenshots, so yours may look a little different. They show Microsoft Edge, the browser that comes with Windows.

Watch it first (90 seconds)

The whole setup on Windows, one screen at a time, with a voice walking you through it.

Before you start

Have these four things done first. It saves you a restart later.

  • Drive encryption is on.Open Settings, then Privacy & security, then Device encryption, and make sure it says On. Don't see it? Click Start, type BitLocker, and make sure BitLocker is on for your C: drive.
  • You have a fresh backup, and it is encrypted.A copy of your files made recently, with a password or encryption turned on.
  • You have a Claude Pro account.Sign up at claude.ai in a web browser on your computer. Don't sign up in the iPhone app. Remember the email you used.
  • Your setup email is open.It has your download link and your personal support link. Keep it handy.

The screens you may see, in order

1

Google Drive warns you about the file

What you see

"Google Drive can't scan this file for viruses. This file is executable and may harm your computer."

What to do

  1. Click Download anyway.
  2. Click it one time only. Then wait. The download shows up in the top right corner of your browser.

Clicked it more than once? No harm done. You just have extra copies. Use any one of them.

2

The Downloads list says the file isn't common

What you see

"CommandKey-Start-yourname.exe isn't commonly downloaded. Make sure you trust CommandKey-Start-yourname.exe before you open it."

What to do

  1. Move your mouse over the file in the Downloads list.
  2. Click the three dots (...) next to it.
  3. Click Keep.

We're a small company, so Windows hasn't seen our file many times yet. That is all this warning means.

3

A box asks you to make sure you trust it

What you see

"Make sure you trust CommandKey-Start-yourname.exe before you open it. Microsoft Defender SmartScreen couldn't verify if this file is safe. Publisher: Unknown." The buttons say Cancel and a red Delete.

What to do

  1. Don't click the red Delete itself. Click the small arrow on the right side of the red Delete button.
  2. Click Keep anyway.
  3. Back in the Downloads list, click Open file under your file.

Can't find Keep anyway? It's hidden behind that small arrow. That's the trick.

4

A blue box says Windows protected your PC

What you see

"Windows protected your PC." This one may not show up at all. If it does:

What to do

  1. Click the words More info.
  2. Make sure the app name starts with CommandKey-Start.
  3. Click Run anyway.
5

Windows asks to allow changes

What you see

"Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?"

What to do

  1. Click Yes.

The screen may go dim behind this box. That's normal. If it asks for a PIN or password, that's your own Windows PIN, the one you use to unlock the computer. Never share it with anyone, us included.

6

Your browser opens to sign in to Claude

What you see

A Claude sign-in page opens in your browser by itself.

What to do

  1. Sign in with the Claude Pro account you set up before you started. Use the same email.
  2. If it asks you to allow access, click Authorize.
  3. Go back to the setup window. You can find it on the taskbar at the bottom of your screen.

Claude may email you a sign-in code. That code goes into the Claude page only. Never send it to anyone.

7

The setup window asks you some questions

What you see

The setup window asks you questions about you and your business, one at a time.

What to do

  1. Type your answer right in that window. If it lists numbered choices, just type the number.
  2. Press Enter to send it.
  3. Take your time. Plain answers are perfect. Nothing here is final: you can change any answer now, or any time later. Just ask your assistant.

Leave the window open until it tells you setup is done.
